Boron, CA – Monday November 6, 2017

Time to get moving.  We want to be home for Thanksgiving and also want to stop by my brother’s in Sparks, NV on the way.  We purchased 8 Lifeline AGM batteries and I need to pick up my 4 on the way home.

Today we are driving to Boron, CA and stay at a rest stop for the night.  We have stayed here a couple of times on our way through California.

Salton City, CA – Thursday November 2, 2017

Up at 6:30 on the road a little after 7:00.

Today’s drive
We are staying in West Shores RV Park in Salton City. It is going to be in the low 80’s while we are here and we want to see some of the sights so we needed air conditioning for Hank.  One of those older parks that has seen better days. Part of the park was a marina however the water is so far away the marina doesn’t even exist any more.
We are close to the water and it is a lot cooler the inland.
Campsite pictures, in site 97.
View from the picnic table.

Fort Stockton, Texas – Thursday October 26, 2017

Today was south to Fort Stockton for more history.   The main part of the old town is pretty well closed up however they have saved a bunch of their history.
They spent a million dollars buy the land from the old fort and rebuild some of the buildings.
The guardhouse was one of the only builds left from the original fort.
The museum in town is in one of the original hotels.

We have one of these at home which Jack has been using.
Fort Stockton museum talked about the cattle and how they helped to make the area grow.

Midland, Texas – Petroleum Museum – Wednesday October 25, 2017

This museum has been recently redone with all new displays and a lot of technology.   They have a lot of touch screens that show videos about people who started and built the oil business in the area.
This was a display showing where all the oil came from millions of years ago.
Lot of beautiful paintings.
Information about the oil companies that started here.

Equipment they used to use to drill wells and to they get it out of the ground.

Also had an amazing section of crystals.

It was a good 3-4 hours here.

Presidential Museum & Leadership Library – Monahans Sandhills State Park, Texas – Tuesday October 24, 2017

Moved out of Odessa looking for a nicer place to stay.

The sites are really close but at least it is not a parking lot, site 26.

Before we went looking for a new campsite we went to the Presidential Archives and Leadership Library.
We spent 2 and a half hours reading a lot of the information they have displayed about the presidents and their actions while president.

Painting and a informational plaque for every president.
Paintings of all the First Ladies and a ton of more information.  The focus is how the presidents lead the nation during it’s many difficult times.
This was a cool painting of all the presidents.
Closer look at the right side of the painting.   I know I could have taken a much better pictures.   Anyway, this is a place I’d like to go back to if come back through here.
