Cathedral Gorge State Park, NV – Wednesday August 28, 2019

Today’s drive 148 miles.

We are in site 3 for the holiday weekend. We have good cell/internet on this side of the park, last time we were here we stayed in site 13 and it was terrible. A sign on the water says we need to boil the water, they may have a contamination problem. Glad we travel with water, we still have 50 gallons and are good for a while.

We hav been here many times over the years. All the sites are non reservable so it is great for just stopping in mid week. We have set out several major storms. A couple of years ago I-15 was washed out south of St. George and all of I-15 traffic had to go by here for several days.

Weather forecast here

This is for Virgin River BLM Campground we were going to go too.

Bought two bags of potato chips at Costco in Bonney Lake and between this one and the one behind it they grew to the point where I had to open this one to get it out of the cabinet.

LaGrande, OR – Sunday August 25, 2019

We had to be out of Salmon Cove by 11:00 a.m. today.

Today we start heading south toward New Mexico. It was sad to leave the Garcia’s we will not see them again until the end of November. The next few days will be traveling and nights at rest stops.

I do think we have a change in plans. Our original plan was to spend the holiday weekend at Virgin River Campground which is just inside Arizona between St George, Utah and Mesquite, Nevada. When we got internet today I found out it is going to be hot there.

Look at the daily forecast for the next week. The Virgin River Campground has no hook ups and NO shade, not a tree or a bush in the place. I think we will go to Cathedral Gorge State Park in Nevada that at least has electricity we should be able to get into on Wednesday.

Today’s travels.

CATHEDRAL GORGE STATE PARK, NV – FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 1, 2017

We ventured out today exploring two state parks northeast of here.  Echo Canyon is 12 miles off the main road Hwy 93 and Spring Valley is 19 miles.

Echo Canyon has a new area about 2 years old which has water/electric/and sewing.  Looked to have three bars of cell service however I don’t know if has the same data problem that Cathedral Gorge was having (this is being written on Thursday September 7) will we were there.  We could get a data connection for 10 to 15 minutes in the morning and a couple minutes in the evening.  Jean was only getting about 20% of her daily Jack pictures.

Here is new campground area.

Than we drove onto Spring Valley State Park, it has zero cell service.

Most of the campsite were small for our motorhome, but there were a few good sites.

Cathedral Gorge State Park, NV – Thursday April 6, 2017

Here is Jack’s 9 month picture.

We did not get as far as we had planned. We were on Hwy 93 just north of I-15 when Richard called to say the wind was blowing in Sparks and peaking at 70 mph.  He was giving us a head’s up for the weekend, it usually takes one to two days for a weather front to get across the state.   We decided to pull into Cathedral Gorge, the campground is in a valley and a good place to set out a storm.  Will be here at least until Sunday. One of the park rangers said the weather should get here late Friday into Saturday.  Jean and I spent almost a week here several years ago setting out a rain storm. I’ll have to look that up in the logbook. It is the year I-15 washed out south of St. George.

In site 13.
By the way Hank loves the cooler temperatures.

Cathedral Gorge State Park, NV – Tuesday September 29, 2015

We are again at Cathedral Gorge State Park on our way towards The Carlsbad Caverns.  Last year we spent 9 days here waiting out the weather while heading south.  Significant thunder storms where in this area and we decided this was the safest place to stay.  The major north/south road, Highway 15, was washed out just south of here and was closed for several days.
Nice day, 90+ outside and 82 inside.

Late additions:

Campsite from the other side.

In the late evening I went out and took a bunch of plant pictures, here are two.
